HART to RS485 Converter Wiring Overview
In the field of industrial instruments, converting the HART signal output by an instrument into an RS485 signal through a converter is a common and economical solution. This conversion can effectively reduce system costs and improve the flexibility of signal transmission. This article will take a single four-wire instrument as an example to introduce the wiring method of the converter in detail.
Four-Wire Instrument Wiring Steps
Four-wire instruments have independent power lines and signal lines, which need to be handled separately during wiring. The following are the specific operation steps:
- Connect the power lines: Connect the two power lines of the instrument to the corresponding power terminals to supply power to the instrument.
- Connect the signal lines: Connect the two signal output lines of the instrument to the LOOP terminal of the converter.
- Connect the resistor: Connect a 150 ohm resistor in parallel at the LOOP terminal to ensure signal stability.
- Connect the RS485 output: Connect the RS485 signal lines (A, B) at the other end of the converter to the host computer or acquisition device.
- Connect the converter power supply: Connect the POW and GND terminals of the converter to a DC power supply.
Wiring Parameters and Precautions
To ensure correct wiring and avoid equipment damage, please refer to the following parameter table and precautions:
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Power supply voltage | Instrument power supply according to specifications; converter power supply is usually 24V DC |
| Signal lines | Shielded twisted pair to reduce interference |
| Terminating resistor | 150 ohm, connected in parallel at the LOOP terminal |
| RS485 wiring | A to A, B to B, avoid reverse connection |
- Before wiring, be sure to confirm that the power supply is disconnected to ensure safety.
- Check whether all wiring is firm to avoid abnormal signals caused by loose connections.
- If communication is unstable, try adjusting the terminating resistor or checking the grounding of the shielding layer.
