FMR50 Radar Level Transmitter Commissioning Overview
Before the instrument is put into production, commissioning is an indispensable part. Correct wiring and parameter settings can ensure the stable operation of the level transmitter. This article will introduce the commissioning method of the FMR50 radar level transmitter in detail to help engineering technicians get started quickly.
Instrument Appearance and Button Operation
The instrument has a simple appearance. After opening the two protective covers, one side is the display screen, and the other side is the power wiring area. The protective covers are removable for easy operation.
The instrument has a total of 3 buttons: E is the confirm button, + and - are used for selection, and pressing + and - simultaneously returns to the previous menu level.
Basic Setup Steps
1. Language and Device Tag
Press E to enter the main menu. First, the language can be set. The device tag can be set as needed; generally, choose not to set it.
2. Distance Unit and Tank Type
Enter the setup menu and select the distance unit, usually M (meters). Tank types include spherical tank, storage tank, standard process tank, process tank with agitator, bypass pipe guided wave tank, etc. If installed with a bypass pipe, the pipe diameter must be entered; open channel is an open type.
3. Medium Group
The medium group is used to select the dielectric constant of the medium. If uncertain, select Other Medium.
4. Empty Calibration and Full Calibration
Empty calibration is the distance from the sensor to the tank bottom, and full calibration is the distance from the lowest level to the highest level. The blind zone distance is fixed and can be viewed in subsequent options. Signal strength can be set as needed. Interference suppression is rarely used, mainly for reducing interference among multiple instruments.
Advanced Settings
Level and Medium Properties
Enter advanced settings, select level, medium type, and medium properties. The accurate dielectric constant value can be entered, and the fastest level rise or fall speed can be set.
Process Characteristics and Linearization
In process characteristics, you can select whether the medium has foam, changing dielectric constant, or a small tank less than 1M. The level unit can set the display value unit. The linearization type can convert tank level into volume or weight.
Current Output
The current output can be assigned as level or linearized value, with 4-20mA corresponding to 0%-100%; when distance is selected, 4-20mA corresponds to 0-empty calibration.
Quick Commissioning Checklist
- Setup → Device Tag: Enter the device tag
- Setup → Distance Unit: Select the distance unit
- Setup → Tank Type: Select the tank type; if it is a bypass pipe/guided wave pipe, go to Setup → Bypass Pipe/Guided Wave Pipe Diameter and enter the corresponding pipe diameter
- Setup → Medium Group: Select water-based liquid (DC≥4) or other medium
- Setup → Empty Calibration: Enter the distance E from reference point R to 0% level
- Setup → Full Calibration: Enter the distance F from 0% to 100% level
- Setup → Level: View the level measurement value L
- Setup → Distance: View the distance from reference point R to level L
- Setup → Signal Strength: View the level echo strength
Envelope Curve and Diagnostics
The envelope curve setting can be used to access the measurement signal. If a suppression curve has been recorded, it can be displayed simultaneously. Current output settings are rarely used. Diagnostic settings are used to view errors, device information, and measurement values, and can also view event information, simulation, device check, and heartbeat verification.
Expert Mode
Expert mode allows viewing all advanced device parameters, setting measurement parameters, current output, switch output, etc. Generally, it is sufficient to understand it; it is rarely used.
Summary
The core of commissioning is the setting of empty calibration and full calibration, as well as selecting the tank type and medium conductivity according to actual needs. In most cases, setting the empty calibration and full calibration is sufficient to put it into use.
