FMR50 Radar Level Transmitter Product Overview

The FMR50 is a radar level transmitter for continuous non-contact level measurement of liquids, slurries, and mud. Its maximum measuring range reaches 40m, and the enhanced version can reach 50m. The process temperature range is -40...+130℃, the process pressure range is -1...+3bar, and the measurement accuracy error is within 2mm.

The instrument has passed multiple certifications including international explosion-proof and WHG, making it suitable for most industrial locations. Its core advantages include: it can still complete measurements when the medium and process conditions change, is equipped with HistoROM intelligent data management for easy commissioning, maintenance, and diagnostics; multi-loop signal tracking technology ensures high reliability; it is also equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology and heartbeat verification technology.

Measuring Principle and Signal Processing

Top-down measurement based on time of flight (ToF)

Micropilot is a "top-down" measuring system based on the time-of-flight (ToF) principle, measuring the distance from the reference point (process connection) to the medium surface. The antenna emits radar pulse signals, the signals are reflected at the medium surface, and the reflected signals are received by the instrument.

R is the measurement reference point (the lower end face of the flange or threaded connection), E is the empty calibration (zero point), F is the full calibration (full scale), D is the measured distance, and L is the level (L = E - D).

Echo identification and interference suppression

The antenna receives the radar pulse reflected signal and transmits the reflected signal to the instrument. The microprocessor in the instrument performs signal analysis to identify the true reflected echo of the radar pulse signal at the material surface. D is proportional to the running time: D = c × t / 2, where c is the speed of light, and L = E - D.

The instrument is equipped with an interference echo suppression function, which users can activate themselves. The interference echo suppression function and the multi-echo signal tracking algorithm together ensure that interference echoes are not mistakenly identified as true level echoes.

Commissioning and Linearization Settings

Basic commissioning steps

When commissioning the Micropilot instrument, the core is to input the empty calibration distance (zero point), full calibration distance (full scale), and corresponding application parameters. The instrument will automatically adapt to the actual on-site working conditions.

  1. Enter the empty calibration distance (zero point)
  2. Enter the full calibration distance (full scale)
  3. Set the corresponding application parameters

Instruments with different output types have default factory settings: for the current output type, the zero point corresponds to 4mA and full scale corresponds to 20mA; for the digital output type and display unit, the zero point defaults to 0% and full scale defaults to 100%. Basic measurement requirements can be met without additional settings.

Linearization function

This instrument supports manual or semi-automatic input of a linearization table, which can contain up to 32 parameter pairs. The linearization function can be enabled through on-site operation or remote control. Once enabled, the instrument can not only provide measurement results in various engineering units, but also output linearized signals for spherical tanks, horizontal tanks, and tanks with conical outlets, making the measurement data better fit the structural characteristics of different tanks and meeting diverse measurement scenario requirements.

The measured variable of this instrument is the distance from the reference point to the medium surface. Linearization can convert the measured level into other variables. Its effective measuring range depends on antenna size, medium reflectivity, installation position, and final interference reflections.

Technical Parameters and Output Options
