HI96722

Portable cyanuric acid photometer

Cyanuric acid portable photometer

Product Overview

  • HI96722 is no longer available.

  • Below is a link to a new meter that has been upgraded with many advanced features, including an improved optical system, a dot-matrix LCD that provides a graphical tutorial mode to help users complete the measurement process, and is waterproof, including the cuvette assembly.

  • Both meters use the same reagents.

  • The HI96722 portable photometer is used to measure cyanuric acid. Hanna's portable photometers use an advanced optical system; the combination of a special tungsten lamp, a narrow-band interference filter, and a silicon photodetector ensures accurate photometric readings every time. Hanna's exclusive CAL Check™ feature uses ready-made NIST-traceable standards to verify meter verification and calibration. The dedicated cuvette locking system ensures that the cuvette is inserted into the measurement cell in the same position every time to maintain a consistent path length.

  • Features at a glance

  • CAL Check™ - allows performance verification and calibration of the meter using CAL Check NIST-traceable secondary standards.

  • GLP - records the date the last user calibration was performed.

  • Built-in timer - allows the use of a timer to ensure the chemical reaction uses the appropriate 3 minute 30 second reaction time. When the timer countdown ends, the meter will automatically take a reading. This feature ensures consistency between multiple users.

  • Indexing notch on the meter - the meter has a notch that allows a lock and key to engage with the cuvette cap. This ensures that the cuvette is consistently indexed (in the same position) so that the same path length is maintained for accurate results.

  • Cooling lamp indicator - in order to maintain narrow-band light, it is necessary to keep the temperature of the optical components consistent. This photometer has a cooling lamp indicator that is displayed for a short period before each measurement so that the components can cool and the highest possible accuracy can be achieved.

  • Error messages - displayed messages warn of problems, including no cap, over-range and under-range readings, and light source errors.

  • Auto shut-off - when the meter is in measurement mode, it automatically shuts off after 10 minutes of non-use. Prevents wasting battery if the meter is accidentally left on.

  • Battery status indicator

  • The instrument has a battery level indicator to show the remaining battery life, as follows:

  • 3 bars, 100% capacity

  • 2 bars, 66% capacity

  • 1 bar, 33% capacity

  • When the battery level is below 10%, the battery icon will flash.

  • Measurement unit - the appropriate measurement unit is displayed together with the reading.

  • Cyanuric acid (CYA) is a chlorine stabilizer. It is widely used in swimming pool and spa treatment programs to slow down the decomposition of hypochlorous acid. In outdoor swimming pool areas, the effect of ultraviolet light accelerates this process. If used properly, it can save 80% of a pool's normal chlorine consumption during peak periods. Cyanuric acid is also used in chlorinated beaches, selective herbicides, and brightening agents.

  • The HI96722 uses the turbidimetric method to measure cyanuric acid concentrations in the range of 0 to 80 mg/L (ppm). When added to a sample containing cyanuric acid, the reagent reacts to form a white suspension; the greater the cyanuric acid concentration, the deeper the color. The associated color change is then analyzed colorimetrically according to the Beer-Lambert law. This principle states that light is absorbed by the complementary color, and the emitted radiation depends on the concentration. For cyanuric acid, a narrow-band interference filter at 525 nm (green) allows only green light to be detected by the silicon photodetector. As the color change of the reacted sample increases, the absorbance of light at a specific wavelength also increases, while transmittance decreases.

  • CAL Check™ standards with certificate

Municipal Wastewater Treatment

Municipal Wastewater Treatment · Hanna — Stock Configuration Case

Project Overview

The site is the inlet, biological and outlet stages of a municipal plant. The customer wanted Hanna properly configured on the existing plant, with the aim of covering portable and laboratory water testing with Hanna instruments.

Technical Challenges

What actually causes trouble is high solids and corrosive fractions, with large diurnal flow swings, and effluent parameters drift and probes foul with sludge and biofilm. All of this means the Hanna configuration has to involve selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability.

Configuration

Supply and installation were organised through the stock channel: configuring from stock and delivered quickly. On site this meant selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability, checked line by line against: stable compliance with Grade 1A discharge limits and online data reporting.

Performance

After commissioning the outcome is results available on site, reducing lab re-checks, and the readings are now used for process tuning.

Food & Beverage

Food & Beverage · Hanna — Stock Configuration Case

Site Conditions

This is a Food & Beverage customer whose plant is at dosing, pasteurising, filling and CIP stages. The main task was covering portable and laboratory water testing with Hanna instruments.

The Problem

The difficulty lies in syrups, dairy and beverages that scale easily, under strict hygienic requirements; at the same time frequent cleaning demands instruments that withstand hot CIP/SIP caustic cycles. Specification therefore means selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability.

What We Did

We took a stock channel approach — configuring from stock and delivered quickly. Delivery was built around selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability, with point-by-point checks on: food-safety and hygienic design per 3-A / EHEDG.

Operating Outcome

In service the system performs as intended — results available on site, reducing lab re-checks, with routine maintenance falling noticeably.

Chemical & Pharmaceutical

Chemical & Pharmaceutical · Hanna — Stock Configuration Case

Application Context

reactors, metering vessels and finished-product tanks is a typical Chemical & Pharmaceutical duty. The project started from Hanna, focusing on covering portable and laboratory water testing with Hanna instruments.

Process Constraints

corrosion plus Ex protection shortens instrument life and makes downtime costly, and highly corrosive media with solvents and crystallisation, partly in explosive atmospheres only amplify it. The Hanna specification must therefore cover selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability.

Delivery Approach

Delivery was handled as the stock channel — configuring from stock and delivered quickly. Execution centred on selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability, together with Ex certification and GMP traceability of records.

Field Results

Operation shows the benefit clearly — results available on site, reducing lab re-checks, with confidence in this measuring point improving markedly.

Power & Energy

Power & Energy · Hanna — Stock Configuration Case

Customer Profile

The typical setting in Power & Energy is boiler feedwater, turbine condensate and FGD/DeNOx systems. The measuring point is Hanna; the focus is covering portable and laboratory water testing with Hanna instruments.

Key Difficulties

Conditions are high temperature and pressure with both steam and saline water and, on top of that, drift under high temperature and pressure, with very costly unplanned outages, which a standard configuration cannot handle for long. The design therefore starts with selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability.

Implementation

The scope ran through the stock channel: configuring from stock and delivered quickly. Technically it hinges on selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability, and on these requirements: compliance with power-industry codes and unit availability targets.

Customer Benefit

In practice this means results available on site, reducing lab re-checks, which cut the workload on the site maintenance team.
