Product Overview
HI9813-61 is a portable, waterproof meter designed to measure pH, EC/TDS and temperature when paired with the corresponding HI1285-61 probe. The meter is easy to use, with measurement-mode dedicated keys clearly shown on the LCD and 1-point calibration trimmers for pH and EC. On-screen tutorial messages guide the user through calibration and measurement.
The HI9813-61 portable meter features a large LCD that displays pH, EC, TDS or temperature readings together with tutorial instructions. pH readings are displayed with 0.1 resolution and ±0.1 pH accuracy, while EC and TDS readings are displayed with 0.01 mS/cm and 1 ppm (mg/L) resolution and 2% full scale accuracy. The HI9813-5 has an EC range of 0.00 to 4.00 mS/cm and a TDS range of 0 to 1999 ppm. The temperature correction coefficient (β) is fixed at 2%/°C, allowing automatic temperature-compensated measurements of EC and TDS. The HI9813-61 is a basic pH/EC/TDS meter that is manually calibrated to one point using two trimmers. pH is calibrated to pH 7.01, while EC/TDS is calibrated to 1.41 mS/cm (1413 µS/cm) or 1500 ppm. The LCD screen has a battery life indicator as well as on-screen tutorial messages. The supplied HI1285-61 probe has a polypropylene body, an amplified pH electrode and built-in EC/TDS and temperature sensors. The pH electrode amplifier protects against interference from humidity and electrical noise from common sources such as motors, ballasts or pumps. The HI9813-61 is a versatile meter for agriculture, greenhouses and hydroponics.
HI1285-61 polypropylene body amplified pH electrode with built-in EC/TDS and temperature sensors.
The HI9813-61 is supplied with a polypropylene body pH/EC/TDS/temperature probe. The pH, EC, TDS and temperature sensors are mounted in a single body that connects to the meter via a DIN connector.
Key Features
- 3-in-1 combination probe: with pH, EC/TDS and temperature sensors.
- CAL Check™: CAL Check™ function.
- Wide range of applications: best suited for hydroponic, greenhouse, agricultural and groundwater applications.
- Amplified pH electrode: the pH electrode circuit has a built-in amplifier that reduces the effect of electrical noise on high impedance pH measurements. Examples of electrical noise sources include motors, ballasts and pumps commonly found in greenhouses.
- Amperometric EC/TDS sensor: EC/TDS readings are performed by an amperometric sensor. An AC voltage is applied to the sensor, and the amount of current that passes between two stainless steel pins depends on the amount of salt (fertilizer) present. The higher the salt content, the higher the conductivity.
- Polypropylene body: the polypropylene body houses all sensors in a one-piece design that is durable. The probe is gel-filled and operates maintenance-free. It does not have to be refilled periodically.
- 3 sensors in a single probe: pre-amplified pH electrode, resistant to electrical noise; gel-filled maintenance-free pH electrode.
- Waterproof: waterproof design.
- Automatic temperature compensation: all readings are compensated for temperature changes.
- EC to TDS conversion factor: the factor is automatically adjusted from 0.56 to 0.78 based on actual EC readings.
- Natural water factor based on the 442 curve: natural water factor based on the 442 curve.
- Low battery indicator: low battery indicator.

Case Studies
Municipal Wastewater Treatment · Hanna — Stock Configuration Case
Project Overview
The site is the inlet, biological and outlet stages of a municipal plant. The customer wanted Hanna properly configured on the existing plant, with the aim of covering portable and laboratory water testing with Hanna instruments.
Technical Challenges
What actually causes trouble is high solids and corrosive fractions, with large diurnal flow swings, and effluent parameters drift and probes foul with sludge and biofilm. All of this means the Hanna configuration has to involve selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability.
Configuration
Supply and installation were organised through the stock channel: configuring from stock and delivered quickly. On site this meant selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability, checked line by line against: stable compliance with Grade 1A discharge limits and online data reporting.
Performance
After commissioning the outcome is results available on site, reducing lab re-checks, and the readings are now used for process tuning.
Food & Beverage · Hanna — Stock Configuration Case
Site Conditions
This is a Food & Beverage customer whose plant is at dosing, pasteurising, filling and CIP stages. The main task was covering portable and laboratory water testing with Hanna instruments.
The Problem
The difficulty lies in syrups, dairy and beverages that scale easily, under strict hygienic requirements; at the same time frequent cleaning demands instruments that withstand hot CIP/SIP caustic cycles. Specification therefore means selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability.
What We Did
We took a stock channel approach — configuring from stock and delivered quickly. Delivery was built around selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability, with point-by-point checks on: food-safety and hygienic design per 3-A / EHEDG.
Operating Outcome
In service the system performs as intended — results available on site, reducing lab re-checks, with routine maintenance falling noticeably.
Chemical & Pharmaceutical · Hanna — Stock Configuration Case
Application Context
reactors, metering vessels and finished-product tanks is a typical Chemical & Pharmaceutical duty. The project started from Hanna, focusing on covering portable and laboratory water testing with Hanna instruments.
Process Constraints
corrosion plus Ex protection shortens instrument life and makes downtime costly, and highly corrosive media with solvents and crystallisation, partly in explosive atmospheres only amplify it. The Hanna specification must therefore cover selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability.
Delivery Approach
Delivery was handled as the stock channel — configuring from stock and delivered quickly. Execution centred on selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability, together with Ex certification and GMP traceability of records.
Field Results
Operation shows the benefit clearly — results available on site, reducing lab re-checks, with confidence in this measuring point improving markedly.
Power & Energy · Hanna — Stock Configuration Case
Customer Profile
The typical setting in Power & Energy is boiler feedwater, turbine condensate and FGD/DeNOx systems. The measuring point is Hanna; the focus is covering portable and laboratory water testing with Hanna instruments.
Key Difficulties
Conditions are high temperature and pressure with both steam and saline water and, on top of that, drift under high temperature and pressure, with very costly unplanned outages, which a standard configuration cannot handle for long. The design therefore starts with selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability.
Implementation
The scope ran through the stock channel: configuring from stock and delivered quickly. Technically it hinges on selected by parameter set, accuracy and field portability, and on these requirements: compliance with power-industry codes and unit availability targets.
Customer Benefit
In practice this means results available on site, reducing lab re-checks, which cut the workload on the site maintenance team.
