5WBB Electromagnetic Flowmeter Overview
The 5WBB is an electromagnetic flowmeter designed specifically for various standard water and wastewater applications, featuring simple operation and reliable measurement. The instrument uses bidirectional flow measurement and is completely unaffected by pressure, density, temperature, and viscosity. Its basic information is introduced below.
Working Principle
The 5WBB operates based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction: a conductor moving in a magnetic field generates an induced electromotive force. In electromagnetic measurement, the flowing medium acts as a moving conductor.
The induced voltage (Ue) is proportional to the flow velocity (v) and is transmitted to the signal amplifier through two measuring electrodes. The volumetric flow rate (Q) is calculated based on the pipe cross-sectional area (A). An alternating switched DC current generates a direct current (DC) magnetic field. The principle is shown in the figure.
Instrument Structure and Features
The instrument consists of a transmitter and a sensor:
- Compact type: The transmitter and sensor form a single integrated unit.
- Remote type: The transmitter and sensor are installed separately.
The instrument provides reliable measurement. Installation with zero upstream straight pipe length does not affect high-precision measurement values, and there is no pressure loss. Engineering design is flexible. The sensor uses fixed flange or loose flange connections and supports buried installation or long-term underwater measurement. Commissioning is simple, with a self-verification function.
Installation Guide
Correct installation is crucial for measurement accuracy. The flow direction of the medium can be determined by the arrow on the nameplate. Ensure the upstream and downstream straight pipe sections are straight and the internal medium flows smoothly. Ensure sufficient spacing between the sensor and adjacent pipe elbows.
Installation Position and Orientation
- When installed on a vertical pipe, the medium should flow from top to bottom.
- When installed on a horizontal pipe, the transmitter head should face upward.
- When installed near a control valve, it should be installed in the upstream pipe.
- When installed in the upstream pipe of a vertically downward pipe, note that the measuring tube under low pressure may damage the liner. This can be solved by installing a siphon and vent valve downstream.
- Inclined, partially filled pipes require the installation of a drainage device.
- Instrument models with pipe diameters greater than 350 require support measures.
- On pipes with strong vibration, remote installation is recommended.
- A suitable adapter (double-flange reducer) can be used to install the sensor in a larger-diameter pipe to increase the medium flow velocity entering the sensor and improve measurement accuracy for extremely slow-flowing media.
