The HMA-TNI total nickel analyzer uses colorimetric spectrophotometric detection with high-temperature digestion of the sample; digestion reagent is added to the sample, which is then pumped to the high-temperature digestion unit. Total nickel in the sample is digested into divalent nickel ions. In the presence of an oxidant (ammonium persulfate), the divalent nickel ions form an orange-brown colored complex with dimethylglyoxime in an alkaline solution. Spectrophotometric measurement is performed at 470 nm; by comparing the difference between the initial color of the sample and its color after adding the color reagent, the sample concentration is determined.
