HACH QL3580M
QL3580M Online Total Organic Carbon Analyzer for TOC monitoring in municipal tap water and distribution networks, and TOC monitoring in industrial source water

Measuring method

  • 1. The water sample enters the reactor and reacts with acid, at which point the inorganic carbon in the water sample is converted into carbon dioxide;

  • 2. Using carbon dioxide-free air (pure oxygen) as the carrier gas, the carbon dioxide converted from inorganic carbon is purged out, and at this point the total inorganic carbon (TIC) can be measured by detection with an NDIR detector;

  • 3. The water sample from which TIC (total inorganic carbon) has been removed is then oxidized;

  • 4. After oxidation is complete, the carbon dioxide converted from organic carbon is purged out by the carrier gas and detected by the NDIR detector to obtain the total organic carbon (TOC) content.

Instrument features

  • Adopts an oxidation method combining UV persulfate and hydroxyl radicals, resulting in higher oxidation efficiency and high accuracy even at low concentrations

  • Adopts a sample inlet line with a 4 mm inner diameter, allowing passage of soft particles up to 2 mm in diameter, and comes with a built-in flow cell, so routine samples require no filtration

  • The two-point automatic calibration function reduces additional maintenance workload for operators, and sequential batch measurement reduces reagent consumption.

  • The analysis process does not use alkaline reagents, effectively reducing the difficulty for operators to prepare reagents and eliminating measurement interference caused by carbon dioxide dissolving into alkaline reagents

  • Low maintenance workload, low maintenance cost

  • Friendly human-machine interface: equipped with a high-definition touchscreen, featuring a user-friendly operating interface and instrument interfaces, enabling quick and convenient data download and software updates, and a multi-level management mode for convenient instrument management by users

Municipal Wastewater Treatment

Municipal Wastewater Treatment · HACH-ONLINE — Application Case

Project Background

The project covers the inlet, biological and outlet stages of a municipal plant. The work centres on HACH-ONLINE and the core task is continuous outfall monitoring with Hach online instruments.

Operating Challenges

The medium and duty are characterised by high solids and corrosive fractions, with large diurnal flow swings, and effluent parameters drift and probes foul with sludge and biofilm. So HACH-ONLINE cannot be specified generically — it calls for configured by monitoring range, reagent replacement interval and conditioning.

Solution

The Ainstru engineering team worked through the online water-analysis line: integrating around each online monitoring point. The configuration involves configured by monitoring range, reagent replacement interval and conditioning, with these requirements in view: stable compliance with Grade 1A discharge limits and online data reporting.

Results

Since start-up the system has run steadily; the practical result is steady reagent and consumable supply, making upkeep predictable.

Food & Beverage

Food & Beverage · HACH-ONLINE — Application Case

Project Overview

The site is dosing, pasteurising, filling and CIP stages. The customer wanted HACH-ONLINE properly configured on the existing plant, with the aim of continuous outfall monitoring with Hach online instruments.

Technical Challenges

What actually causes trouble is syrups, dairy and beverages that scale easily, under strict hygienic requirements, and frequent cleaning demands instruments that withstand hot CIP/SIP caustic cycles. All of this means the HACH-ONLINE configuration has to involve configured by monitoring range, reagent replacement interval and conditioning.

Configuration

Supply and installation were organised through the online water-analysis line: integrating around each online monitoring point. On site this meant configured by monitoring range, reagent replacement interval and conditioning, checked line by line against: food-safety and hygienic design per 3-A / EHEDG.

Performance

After commissioning the outcome is steady reagent and consumable supply, making upkeep predictable, and the readings are now used for process tuning.

Chemical & Pharmaceutical

Chemical & Pharmaceutical · HACH-ONLINE — Application Case

Site Conditions

This is a Chemical & Pharmaceutical customer whose plant is at reactors, metering vessels and finished-product tanks. The main task was continuous outfall monitoring with Hach online instruments.

The Problem

The difficulty lies in highly corrosive media with solvents and crystallisation, partly in explosive atmospheres; at the same time corrosion plus Ex protection shortens instrument life and makes downtime costly. Specification therefore means configured by monitoring range, reagent replacement interval and conditioning.

What We Did

We took a online water-analysis line approach — integrating around each online monitoring point. Delivery was built around configured by monitoring range, reagent replacement interval and conditioning, with point-by-point checks on: Ex certification and GMP traceability of records.

Operating Outcome

In service the system performs as intended — steady reagent and consumable supply, making upkeep predictable, with routine maintenance falling noticeably.

Power & Energy

Power & Energy · HACH-ONLINE — Application Case

Application Context

boiler feedwater, turbine condensate and FGD/DeNOx systems is a typical Power & Energy duty. The project started from HACH-ONLINE, focusing on continuous outfall monitoring with Hach online instruments.

Process Constraints

drift under high temperature and pressure, with very costly unplanned outages, and high temperature and pressure with both steam and saline water only amplify it. The HACH-ONLINE specification must therefore cover configured by monitoring range, reagent replacement interval and conditioning.

Delivery Approach

Delivery was handled as the online water-analysis line — integrating around each online monitoring point. Execution centred on configured by monitoring range, reagent replacement interval and conditioning, together with compliance with power-industry codes and unit availability targets.

Field Results

Operation shows the benefit clearly — steady reagent and consumable supply, making upkeep predictable, with confidence in this measuring point improving markedly.
